Understanding the Roles in Apprenticeship Programs

Apprenticeship programs play a crucial role in bridging skills gaps for specific workforce needs. To effectively develop an apprenticeship program, it is essential to distinguish between the roles of an Intermediary and a Program Sponsor. This document aims to provide clarity on these distinctions, key roles, and the benefits of an Intermediary in the context of apprenticeship programs.

Intermediary vs. Program Sponsor:

Intermediary:

An Intermediary in apprenticeship programs serves as a facilitator and coordinator between various stakeholders. Their core functions include program development and delivery, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, evaluation, and support, as well as strategy and field building.

Program Sponsor:

A Program Sponsor, on the other hand, is any entity responsible for administering a Registered Apprenticeship (RA) program. The Program Sponsor serves as the cornerstone of the program, shouldering significant responsibilities to ensure its smooth operation and compliance.
